Terry Connell

Terry Connell is ratified 7th Dan by the SKGB and is head of Shitokai in Scotland, Scotland's largest Shitoryu association. He also held, and currently holds, the following positions:

Chair of Scottish Karate from 1999-2004
President of Scottish Karate from 2004-present
President of the BKF (British Karate Federation) from 2002-present.

Born in Glasgow Terry is currently 55 years old and has been practising karate since 1972. He has been a regular visitor to Japan since the early 80's, and has taught in various countries including England, Ireland, Belgium, Israel, Palestine, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa. (Whilst in Palestine Terry was caught up in a gun battle between the Israeli forces and the then PLO. He was escorted to a safe house. then taken out of Gaza under a blanket in the back of a Mercedes. A new experience for him, but, apparently, an everyday occurrence in Gaza.)

Since 2000 Shitokai have won the following medals in Kumite and Kata:

BKF British Individual Gold 17
SKGB Scottish Individual Gold 39
EKF Paris 2009 Kumite Bronze

Terry also completed the 50 man fight [43 wins] for the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind. He is also Scotland's oldest medallist (Team Kata Gold, at 47 years).

With karate being considered for the Olympic Games in the near future, Terry has been heavily involved in talks with Lord Moynihan, and also in talks with Lord Coe, regarding the 2012 Cultural Festival.
